About the event

Over the course of two days at Finca Las Hormigas, we’ll explore and deepen our connection to the very foundation of life: The soil beneath our feet!

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just curious about how soil impacts our world, this course is designed to deepen your understanding of soil and empower you with practical skills to nurture it.

Why?

- You want to learn how to grow your own veg and fruit successfully?

- You want to understand how the very source you’re walking on works?

- Ground Your Spiritual Practice with Real-World Skills?

- Want to take a first step in having a positive impact on the Earth?

Through engaging discussions, hands-on practices, and scientific exploration, you'll gain the knowledge and skills to improve soil health, which directly supports everything that grows from it—and contributes to a healthier planet.

Foundation. Insight. Interaction.

On Day 1, we’ll lay the groundwork both literally and figuratively. You will explore the vital importance of soil in sustaining life, from plants to the human experience. You'll learn how different cultures have revered and managed soil and why its health is crucial for the well-being of our world. We’ll highlight how improving soil health aids in carbon sequestration, enhances water retention, and builds overall ecosystem resilience. The day’s practical sessions will empower you with the tools to turn waste into a resource through composting techniques, and you’ll dive into the unseen world of soil microorganisms that play a crucial role in soil vitality and biodiversity—a hidden world teeming with life beneath our feet.

Practical. Scientific. Hands-on.

Day 2 will build upon this foundation, guiding you through the creation of organic fertilizers and pesticides that align with sustainable practices. You’ll learn how soil health is a cornerstone of permaculture, integrating social and ecological harmony. These skills will not only benefit your garden but also contribute to a healthier environment, with tangible steps toward a more sustainable future. We’ll also discuss the connection between soil health and the quality of the food we eat, linking it to a healthier lifestyle and mental wellness.

In user-friendly sessions, you'll get hands-on with simple soil science. We’ll show you how to analyze soil samples using basic chromatography techniques to understand soil health better. You’ll get introduced to soil microbiology in a way that's easy to grasp, learning about the beneficial microbes that help soil thrive and prepare and apply natural remedies like hot plant extracts to protect and enhance soil health. The samples we’ve made you can take home, and immediately start applying your newfound knowledge.

This course is more than just learning about soil—it's about understanding our deep connection to the earth and how we can cultivate healthier, more regenerative ways of living.

Join us in this transformative experience and become a steward of the soil, enriching not only your garden but the world around you. Working with soil can reduce stress, improve mood, and provide a profound sense of fulfillment—healing not just the land, but ourselves as well.
